PRINCE

Post by foal30 »

I will blame this on Dylan, but it surely is time for some serious fan-boy ravings on this 5'2' musical MF'er.

I've scored the 2003 Las Vegas gig DVD and it is an absolute cracker.
other live items to check out are "Sign of the Times" and "the Undertaker".

For quality of Musicians he has worked with / exsposed only Miles Davis could probably lay claim to having a better record.

and as this is a Guitar site I better mention he might just be one of the best on the planet... having Clapton, Townsend and Santana in your fanclub must be a good thing eh? You probably can't miss out on any guitar goodness on any of his records, but "Purple Rain" , "Sign of the Times" and "Come" are possibly first places to check out.

I think Chaos And Disorder is a great album to hear some top Prince rock guitar.

"I Rock , therefore I am" is worthy for the title alone eh?

Agreed. I think he's an absolutely amazing musician. Take almost anything he's done, and listen carefully: therell be something there that lifts it above just about anything else stylistically similar (I guess that only applies to songs that are actually similar to something of someone else's ;) ).

I'm listening to Starfish and Coffee right now, and it's amazing (not taking anything away from Dylan's version, which I'll probably listen to as soon as this one's finished. It's such a simple song, but the arrangement makes it incredible. The harmony vocals are amazing; when they start is unexpected, and the actual harmonies themselves are fairly left of centre ;) Then the drums start - or at least the backwards reverb of a drum (or something) :? wtf??! but somehow it's fantastic. And there's some cool synth/string thing going on which sounds almost like it's out of tune, but it's kind of not

...that sort of thing. He takes what is at base simple, and - somehow without over-complicating it - makes it interesting and very cool.

I was listening to a live concert of Prince in the Jeep today. HotGrits and I both commented on how kickass a musician Prince is. Great band too. F'n great band!

plenty of Guitar
sounds different, maybe a Strat.

its a bit Pop for me but
"I love you Baby...just not like how I love my Guitar"
should be this sites theme song.

well I vote for it.

the mother got up at Stevie Wonder's MSG gig and blew "Superstition"

I'm sort of glad I wasn't there 'cos I'd probably have shat myself.

I don't like much of his stuff, but I certainly rate him very highly as a musician/songwriter.
He hit a chord that rocked the spinet and disappeared into the infinite ...
