Before your time.

Post by ash »

I went on a bargain bin CD buying spree at lunchtime today and lowered the average age of my CD collection by a few years at least. Most of my collection (before today) were released in the period about five years either side of my birth year (most of which is known colloquially as "The Seventies").

Just wondering how much of your favourite music is older than you are?

Ten years ago I would have said about half of it. Now, it's more like 10%

Come on Rog, I think you're exaggerating a bit there! I'm sure those Caveman clubs made a delightfully percussive 'donk' as they crushed a human/neanderthal/mammoth skull.

Love most of Bach's organ stuff. BWV582 is truly epic.

Most definitely counts as older than me. As does Django and the like. And the Stones. And ACDC.

This is so depressing. There are no more landmark bands anymore, that anyone in the public can recognise immediately.

Alan - if you like Django and that era - check out this site. Its a Dutch site where he's turned very old 78s into streaming music.

Funnily enough, I have been headhunted to play in a reforming Tour of Duty band in Palmy.... I am seriously considering it. Rog in Camo.

Hurdy Gurdy.... some how... and I'm not entirely certain how mind you, an instrument that sounds like someone has shoved a nest of angry hornets into a goose with a kazoo bill and is randomly slapping the poor creature with an accordion.... Sounds amazing.
