wasn't he just?
Nah, despite his mannerisms, I understand Pat Smear is currently married with a child, and has been married previously.... to a woman of all things. Either way, seems like a good guy to be in a band with. Actually, all the Foo's do.
really that's interesting? Could've sworn I read an article somewhere saying how the Foo's supported some charity ghey cause or something and they were proud to because of Pat.
Or I could've dreamed that, but I'm 90% sure that I didn't

whoah man, you need to back up with your profanities with a passive aggressive explanation (here I'll give you an example e.g "I'm on the red wines mate it wasn't supposed to be taken literally... ooh look a Gibsun I think I might not buy that today")

I watched it, despite also having zero interest in the band, and I really enjoyed the documentary. Worth watching for a non-fan I reckon.

but still...you would need to like some of their recorded stuff to want to see them live so catch 22
see thats the thing, didn't really like any of their songs, used to hate them, saw them live, was blown away, now a massive fan & have every album all of which I enjoy.
So can I assume you saw them at a BDO or similar?? because I have no idea why you would go to a concert for a band you haven't heard or don't really like....although I did that with pantera and was bored shitless
I went to the Foos in 97 without having heard any more than Monkey Wrench on the radio. Was so awesome that I bought a t-shirt after the gig. T-shirt cost more than the ticket... ($35 as opposed to the $27 to get in)
After the Probot album came out I was ready to declare Dave Grohl to be a genius, but then the Foos starting getting a bit MOReFM for my liking. Now they're picking up again, plus the stuff he's doing outside the Foos and his general persona have won me over again, but not to the same level of worship. I mean, he's no Zakk Wylde...

Remember the days when gigs were oddly affordable? I saw Green Day in '96 for $28 bucks. By 2009, they were charging over $100.
Thought it was a good doco, the guys did seem genuine and down to earth but Dave did come across as a control freak.
Fair enough it is his band, it has come from his first recordings and recruiting people to play it live, so creatively I can see why he wants the level of control he has, just I think that is one of the main downsides of the Foos.
I think The Color and the Shape is an awesome album, but everything from there onward has been very meh and very formulaic. The last Foos album I bought I knew exactly what the arrangement of each song was going to be from the first 4 bars.
If you love the Foos, this is fine, you're guaranteed the same things you loved about the last album and the album before that. Even what I've heard from the new album, which is supposed to be some kind of departure from the usual Foos style, is pretty much the same stuff all over again. I just get the feeling that if the rest of the band were to be allowed more input in the writing, rather than playing stuff over songs he'd already written (then asking for his permission to be able to play what they'd come up with), the music would be a lot more diverse and interesting.
Great musicians, great guys, great production, just after TCATS, completely uninspiring.
The older I get, the more disappointed in myself I become.
