Say wha'? Hardly any (if any at all) of the songs sound anything like GNR...

And how. The track with Lemmy sticks out like a stripper in the Popemobile.

Yeah, the song with Fergie could actually be a Fergie song.

That's part of why I love Back From Cali with Myles Kennedy so much. I don't know any of his other stuff, so I don't bring anything else to the song.

yeah I love the fergie one. And I REALLY Love the Adam Levine one funnily enough, liked the first few Maroon 5 songs that came out, but hated the newer stuff.

Yeah, I agree that it doesn't sound like a Slash album; more like a compilation of Slash guest appearances on other people's songs.

Whereas with Santana (yuck!), you know within the first few seconds that it's clearly a Santana song. They all seem to open with a signature Santana guitar hook (yuck!) which sets the scene then the guest vocalists come in. Listen to the Nickelback (yuck!) song - it's Chad Kroger (yuck!) arguably one of the most easily recognisable vocalists of today, yet it still sounds like a Santana song (yuck!). Same goes for all of the other ones he does.

Slash's album doesn't have any really big guitar hooks. There's some nice guitar work, some kinda average guitar work and some pretty shit directionless widdly widdly solos.

this is it for me I reckon.. not just no guitar hooks, but pretty devoid of hooks all over.. not bad in in any way, shape or form.. just hookless (and not in an "off the hook" good kinda way unfortunately).

While to an extent true, I reckon at the very least, the riff that starts the first track (Ghost w/Izzy and Asterbury) is a motherfu(ker of a hook. :D

This is interesting actually. In playing to serve the song, rather than having the song serve his playing, Slash has actually annoyed some of his fans?

Not quite. I think a good hook is serving the song just as much as a solid rhythm line.

Just seems to be missing some of the stuff that made me want the album: great hooks, great solos. Instead I got almost no hooks and not many driving solos that kick the songs up a notch and take off in a different direction...which is the stuff that made me like Slash in the first place.

Nah man not at all, I much prefer songs that are awesome in all areas rather than having a song serve as a base for some show pony and pointless lead work. I'm a fan of Slash because he was part of a band that wrote awesome songs and his lead work kicked it up a notch, was distinctive, and went somewhere with the song. I feel he always played to serve the song, but this new album is a pretty average display of songwriting with some boring uninspired guitaring IMHO YMMY etc etc

Well, gave this a listen.

Some nice tracks.... very rock... kinda, almost, stuck in a time warp rock, but it's cool.

IMO the Astbury/Stradlin track 'Ghost' owns all and is the only one that got a replay.

Not a lot here that would make me stop what I was doing if the track came on in the back ground.

Still, pretty good for a concept album.
