Slash - Solo album

Post by sty »

I just got this album and I am three songs in and absolutely loving it so far.

Given the hype, buildup and media coverage around it - from what I have heard so far I think it's going to be one of the biggest albums of the year.

My only criticism so far is that there are a lot of different versions out there and different countries have different bonus tracks, which f***ing drives me insane and could make choosing where to buy from difficult. I was originally going to get the UK Classic Rock magazine version which had a 135 page magazine with it and two extra tracks (The Alice Cooper one and Paradise City with Fergie and Cyprus Hill). The only thing that will piss me off massively is if they re-release it again in 6 months time with a free DVD and bonus tracks like Elemeno-P did with their trouble in Paradise album and Airbourne did - I haven't forgiven either of those artists yet.

Back to the album though and five tracks in it's still great. I'm going to enjoy this I think and it will be going onto the iPod once I encode it.

According to The Rock this morning even Axl has had good things to say about it, so Hell might be freezing over.

On a slight tangent after hearing track 2 (Beautiful Dangerous with Fergie) I have to say it would be interesting to hear what a Velvet Revolver album would sound like with her on vocals!

So anybody else got this yet? thoughts?

I heard about half of the album on the internet about a week ago, and of course I'm a fan :)

I'll need to buy it, wonder if the Warehouse (the font of local music culture - well, only one open after work probably!) will have it.

Hmmm, also thought I'd add that while Fergie sounded cool (And should be fronting a rock band - have you seen the clips of her doing Sweet Child with Slash? She's basically belly dancing during most of the solo) I didn't really like Beautiful/Dangerous the first time I heard it.

Myles Kennedy, outstanding. I hear he'll be the touring vocalist. Will be cool. That guy has got some pipes.

Loving the Lemmy track.

@slash-ed
Yep, liked her singing Sweet Child and Paradise City - I suppose it also says a lot about Axl's vocal style ;)

Nah. Seems to be just a standard version - I figure I'll either buy a special edition like those you mentioned eventually, or download the bonus tracks somewhere along the line. I just really wanted to get the damn thing. :D

There is a great version of Pink doing this song live with Steel Panther on YouTube.

I am really looking forward to getting my mitts on this album!

After a second listen, I take back anything bad I said about the Fergie song. IT'S. FUCKING. GREAT.

My picks off the album so far would have to be Astbury/Stradlin, Fergie, Myles on Back from Cali, Cornell and... surprisingly, I really like the Adam Levine song. Great tones there.

And I keep listening to the Ozzy song thinking, where are the pinch harmonics?

Like what I've heard o far. If I have one criticism it's a tad polished in terms of production.
