I'm SO torn up about this. I used to be a HUGE Stones fan (at one point, I listened to nothing else for six months). But then, seeing the Shine A Light doco, I got the distinct impression that they totally, absolutely, utterly suck these days (and not just In The 70s ;) )

BUT... I've never seen them live. And they're not getting any younger and this might be my last chance ever to see them. And if I don't go see them I'll regret it forever. But if I do go see them, I know I'll feel terribly ripped off. And probably regret that forever, too.

yeah that shine a light doc has a lot to answer for, the first few songs in particular were rubbish. But Mick Taylor's playing this time as well...... ah so tempted but I've seen them before, but not with Mick Taylor :(

And the bizarre thing was that it was NOT a doco about a band that used to be great but is now scraping up the floor around the bottom of the barrel of their abilities. They were presented as still being The Greatest Rock and Roll Band in the World. Do they all have fucking cloth ears?

To be honest, I wouldn't care how badly they play, I'm going to see Keith, one of my idols, before he's lost to this world and that alone will satisfy me :)

I read an interesting article ages ago about the "immortal" rock n roll gods, who seem to have survived a lifetime of substance abuse and near-misses. Keith, Ozzy, Dylan etc.

What we don't see is the team of minders that follow these people around to make sure they survive. Most would be dead, if it wasn't for a support team picking them up and getting them the right treatment as soon as they need it.
The older I get, the more disappointed in myself I become.

Yes, it seems like the music industry has learned a few lessons about "asset protection" over the years. These days, OD'ing seems to be more of a movie star thing.

I've said it before, the really impressive survivor is Iggy Pop. He wouldn't have the maintenance budget the Keef must have.
And his live gig work rate is easily 100x higher!
:D

Yeah. My respect for the recently departed tends to be subject to who they were and what they were about. For instance, no way would i have shed a tear when the media pretty much called a national day of morning for that bourgeois advocating media slime Paul Holmes.
