Post War Glamour Girls

Post by jeremyb »

It’s an album, which is the perfect riposte to the veritable tsunami of vacant Brit-School electro-soul arse-wankery which seems to have clogged up music blogs and ‘tastemaker’ lists of late. Post War Glamour Girls prove there is an intelligent, challenging and utterly compelling alternative. This is a band who deliver each line like a f**king punch to the kidneys. A band that possess the sort of caustic wit, wisdom, and literate wordplay that the legendary punk poet who provided inspiration for their collective name would surely approve of. Make no mistake this is a band to believe in, a band to get passionate about and a band who know that the world is wrong about everything.
All wanky review hype aside, these guys are bloody marvellous!

Hmmm... the music strikes me as being about as wanky as the review... YMMV and all that, of course.
The older I get, the more disappointed in myself I become.

Not digging this sorry man, and I like plenty of stuff like this. Good players, good tones, annoying vocals (main vocalist in "Gustave" sings in a way that makes you want to punch his mouth), no spark. There's bands playing this sort of thing every week at Whammy Bar, Lucha Longue etc who do it better.

I would have said very hipster, but I enjoyed it.

Puts me in mind of Nick Cave and the Editors. Maybe a little bit Joy Division.

He's like a Northern version of Nick Cave vocal wise for sure, was the first thing I thought when I first heard them!!
