Violent Femmes - Violent Femmes.

To Quote Michael Azerrad in the 2002 re-issue:
"The Violent Femmes sounded nothing like the Ramones, but it made a very important point about punk rock: you don't need light-speed tempos and distorted electric guitars to do it."

in my opinion a huge influence on grunge. check it out.

Earth

albums worth getting-
Earth 2,
Pentastar: In The Style Of Demons

both albums are completely different, Earth 2 is extremely heavy doom metal, while Pentastar is really decent grunge.

notable songs-
Seven Angels
Tallahassee
Coda Maetoso in F(flat) minor

Prince
"Sign of the Times"

a great album and probably the height (yes that is a pun) of the mans powers. Amazingly the Live Concert of the same name is even better, and the assembled Musicians performances are simply breathtaking yet the little guy up front is still running the show.
Check his solo on "I could never take the place of your man" for proof.

Also good is "The Sacrifice of Victor" a "bootleg" type filmn of a early hours club gig in London. The version of his blues track "Peach" is a ripsnorter.

Tsuken, I throughly agree with your Miles Davis "Kind of Blue" selection, check out Pharaphanila" of Miles in the Sky for a piece of George Benson class.

No it dosen't sound like "Gimmie the Night"

It seems that Prince’s highly accomplished musicianship is rarely acknowledged.

Ok - I reckon Prince is a musical genius. He hides it well at times, but even in the most of-the-moment over-wrought drum-bass jobbys, there tends to be something really interesting and clever going on, which lifts it way beyond what you might think at an initial listen. And he does some damn good stuff on the old guitar as well. I luuuurve the solo in Purple Rain 8)
