I'm a big Rothery fan too - I've been following Marillion since before they got their first record deal.

Oh wow, same! I started with all their early albums but now I’m firmly in the Hogarth camp. Their upcoming album is being talked up as their finest work ever and Rothers is reportedly back on track with his iconic soloing. Can’t wait for my album pre-order to ship, should be any day now

Rothery’s book is worth getting if you don’t already have it :)

Same - hoping the album gets here soon. The last pre-order I did got lost and took ages. I think I read somewhere that if you've pre-ordered you will be able to download mp3s from release day. Haven't seen Rothery's book - will look into that.

I think I remember reading that too. Yeah the book is good, it's a photographic history right back from the early day of Marillion through to the making and recording of Brave. He said he plans to do a second book when he gets the time

Just checked. If you pre-ordered, you can download from the Townsend site from 11am uk time 3rd March.

Are you familiar with Rothery's side project The Wishing Tree? I was listening to the Ostara album yesterday. Really good stuff - Rothery Close to his best blended nicely with female vocals.

Yeah, I have both of those albums. He's also done some cracking guest solo's, I really like this Gilmour-esque one, Rothers' solo starts at 4:30

Do you like Riverside by any chance?

One of my absolute favourite albums from last year was probably

Halsey : If I Can't Have Love I Want Power

Image

blew me away when I first heard the album, and got a whole new lease of life when I managed to get a copy on Vinyl.

Produced by Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross, so has a very familiar undercurrent for me.
Reminds me of Warpaint, but diluted with Tori Amos. Here's Warpaint.

I’ve checked them out but never really got into them. Just found them a little middle-of-the-road if I’m honest

They opened for Crowded House at the Bowl, and were great
