I've been listening to Dirty Loops quite a lot recently, the album they did with Cory Wong is stellar too, fantastic rendition of Thriller!
Also Bela Fleck and the Flecktones since I'm on the Victor Wooten vibe hard.
Also recently discovered Slowly Rolling Camera and am loving them, probably describe them as atmospheric jazz, has a post rock kinda feel to it...

Re: Jazz / Funk / Fusion Artists
John McLaughlin was a key member of Mile Davis' first jazz fusion era. Here are some of my favourite contributions from him.
Here's him playing alongside Sonny Sharrock shredding with an Echoplex
Sonny Sharrock also did the music for the Space Ghost Coast to Coast show
Django Reinhardt
Another favourite jazz guitarist of mine is Mark Ribot
Danny Gatton did a really nice jazz album called New York Stories
But yeah, jazz/funk/fusion is an amazing genre to get into.

It was ground-breaking in introducing unusual time signatures to the masses, and also in bringing jazz to the white middle class. Is it the greatest jazz album of all time? Wouldn't think so. But I still can't stop playing Take Five every time I get near a guitar.
I'm in hospital with a broken femur at the moment, so I blame the morphine for my confusion.
