Re: Jazz / Funk / Fusion Artists
Accessible places to start for jazz would be Kind Of Blue, Time Out or some of the Blue Note compilations. Or if you have a classical bent, Jacques Lousier and his Play Bach series.
Or just dive head first into Chesky's String Theory, late era Miles Davis or other filthy early Charlie Parker.

Maurio Ottolini 8Funk Project
This has been sitting on my playlist for long enough to be of note.
The scope you header covers is huge.

Grant Green gets plenty of airtime on my list.

Also, what @robthemac said, check out the Bluenote stuff. Very varied and it'll help you focus in on what sort of jazz you prefer.

Love that era of Jazz, but no matter how much I listen to Time Out, I have to admit that I just don't get it. The critic's rave about it being ground breaking at the time, but sounds like they're tuning up to me.robthemac wrote: ↑Sat Aug 24, 2024 12:54 pm Accessible places to start for jazz would be Kind Of Blue, Time Out or some of the Blue Note compilations. It was ground-breaking in introducing unusual time signatures to the masses, and also in bringing jazz to the white middle class. Is it the greatest jazz album of all time? Wouldn't think so. But I still can't stop playing Take Five every time I get near a guitar.crowbgood1 wrote: ↑Sat Aug 24, 2024 3:10 pmLove that era of Jazz, but no matter how much I listen to Time Out, I have to admit that I just don't get it. My apologies, I love Dave Brubeck, Time Out. It's Eric Dolpy's, Out To Lunch that I don't get.robthemac wrote: ↑Sat Aug 24, 2024 3:17 pmIt was ground-breaking in introducing unusual time signatures to the masses, and also in bringing jazz to the white middle class. I'm in hospital with a broken femur at the moment, so I blame the morphine for my confusion.
