Best Albums You've Never Heard

Post by ash »

I'm on a musical discovery adventure this weekend - Rush, Morningwood, Genesis, Simple Minds, Psychedelic Furs etc...

Lotsa stuff I have heard of, but never heard.

Lets recommend some great albums to each other, the ones that most of us would never have bothered with, but would probably enjoy:

Jethro Tull - Minstrel in the Gallery
Level 42 - Running in the Family

Great album that.

Were you at the gig? I met them afterwards, had a chat and got them to sign my ticket.

hmmm the only ones I hadn't heard Ash, where Morningwood and the Jethro Tull one...

Ok, I'm going to throw into the mix three albums I haven't listened to in a long while - but three very worthy albums, two from the same band :)

Ritchie Blackmore's Rainbow
Rainbow - Rising
John Mayall's Bluesbreakers - A Hard Road (Greeney at his pinacle)
So, is that low alcohol or no alcohol at all? mmmm, no alcohol, do you want to try it? Noooooooooo.

Rainbow - Rising
Class.

I'd also recommend Billy Idol's last album (first in 12 years!) Devil's Playground which appeared with nil fanfare. He's in fine form, and Steve Stevens of course is the man. Some top rifferama to be enjoyed throughout the album.

I accidentally came across a Stratovarius album (Elements Pt. 1) while looking around for some Dream Theater stuff. Quite interesting, finnish band. A couple of the songs are a bit cheesy but some of it is really good, I definitely recommend a listen.

Also the Finn Brothers, Everyone is Here is ok, some of the lyrics are a bit laboured but a good album. Not sure how long its been around for, I suspect quite a while, but I only heard it recently.

Well, I'm going to pimp my main man Andy Timmon's new album: Resolution. Oh yes. Oh yes. Oh hell yes. It is fantabulous. Stripped down power trio guitar instrumentals. Unbelievably good tone, and a barely credible synthesis of melody, feel, and technique. 8) http://www.favorednations.com. Up in the top right there's a little thing that says favored nations radio. It has some clips from Resolution playing.

Also enjoying Andy Timmons. Listening to his That was then this is now album. Very cool. George Lynch's Furious George is worth a listen too. Listening to White Lion's Big Game this morning. Paul Gilbert and Jimi Kidds album. I love it when all three of my kids are humming the songs at the same time cos there diggin them so much. Shows musc is timeless. Also very happy my kids aren't cloned into the coca cola hits rap marketing machine.

Good call on paradise lost and stratavarius. I'd recommend Sonic Firestorm by Dragonforce for some crazy fast shredding, Epica by Kamelot for a really good rock opera sorta thing, Only by Tommy Emmanuel for some amazing acoustic work, and for drunk party nights Room on Fire and Is this It? by the strokes.

I think most of those arent really ones that noone would give a listen but oh well
I've been trying to justify you, in the end I will just defy you.
