Queen guitarist now a Doctor too!

Brian May, the lead guitarist from rock band Queen, is close to earning his doctorate in astrophysics -- more than 35 years after quitting his studies to become a rock star.

May arrived on the island of La Palma in Spain's Canary Islands several days ago to conduct astronomical observations in support of his thesis, according to a statement by the Institute of Astrophysics of the Canary Islands.

His thesis, "Radial Velocities in the Zodiacal Dust Cloud," is the last component of his PhD studies, and May expected to complete his work on Wednesday.
"It's all a gift... and I have to keep giving it back, or it goes away. If I start believing that it's all my doing, it's gonna be my undoing." - Stevie Ray Vaughan

Nice to see someone famous actually earn their doctorate rather than just gain an honourary one.
Give a man a fish and you feed him for a day. Teach a man to fish and he'll spend thousands on fishing equipment he'll use for a bit, then get bored and move onto something else.

True, but the good thing about those honorary ones is that you don't have to do any actual swot. ;)

They earn it... Through all the money they end up donating to whatever university gave it to them. Well at least according to my lecturers they do :D

Good to see someone breaking the sterotype that rockstars drop out of high school to play guitar and get wasted. Some obviously wait until university.

Just read the story...

"Earlier this month, the writer of such Queen hits as "We Will Rock You" and "Fat Bottomed Girls" was granted an honorary doctorate from Exeter University in Devon, England."

Seems like one's just not enough.

 perhaps I should have tried reading the story as well... but as long as he has a real one, honouraries are ok. It's people like Jeremy Clarkson that annoy me, who got an honourary engineering doctorate from Brunel University (where I studied coincidentally) for a single episode in a TV series about famous Brits.

I'm guessing that school is named after Isambard Kingdom Brunel?

Yep... but it actually has no ties with the famous engineer at all.
