My ASH Strat

Post by Lyle »

Here's my guitar. A custom Strat made by ASH Custom Works. Sorry for my average photography skills!

I emailed Adrian in June 2006 with a vague request for "something with a Strat shaped body, two humbuckers, some sort of floyd rose bridge and a 22 fret neck", after finalising the design with Adrians guidance I paid the deposit and about 6 months later the finished guitar arrived at my work. Actually today is probably pretty close to 5th anniversary of when it was delivered.

Specs:
Fretboard: Rosewood
Neck: Maple
Body: Fijian Kauri - Oiled finish
Weight: 4kgs
Pickups: Seymour Duncan Alnico II Pro (Neck) Bridge: Custom Custom (Bridge)
Bridge: Gotoh Licensed Floyd Rose
Other: Gotoh straplocks, glow in the dark fret markers, all access neck joint, 5-way pickup selector, Gotoh locking tuners

So far everything remains the same as when I purchased it, apart from removing the backplate and adding some tape so my belt doesn't pull the ground cable off the trem claw.
It's been my main guitar for the last 5 years and I've used it at every gig I've played, there's a few dings and wear marks, and the neck has darkened a bit from my hands.
When I first got it, it had a strong 'middy' sound that Adrian attributed to the drying of the oiled finish. This has now faded away as the guitar as aged and more bass is showing through.
At the moment there's nothing I would change on it. The frets probably need to be re-dressed eventually as they're getting a little worn, and I might change the pickups just to try a different sound.

That's really nice, and has worn in beautifully.

It does make me lust after an Ash superstrat all over again...

That's what I call a functional rocker! Nice.

It doesn't really show it in the photos but has an awesome glistening effect when it catches the light.

Lovely guitar. I've never seen a bad one from Adrian.
He hit a chord that rocked the spinet and disappeared into the infinite ...
