The Newb's Rig
Hey all, here's my rig, the whole enchilada. I'm quite happy with this set-up. I play in a rock/blues/fusion/funk power trio, and this serves me well. Super cleans and different levels of OD that's always round and open, never compressed or satuarated; it's not what you may expect. I'll be adding another 1x12 MESA straight cab for a "mini stack."
Epiphone Dot 335, all stock
Mesa Mini Rec w/1x12 slant closed cabinet, MESA/Celestion V30
NYC Pedalboards "Six Shot" with the basics: Crybaby wah out front-->amp Send---->Fromel Shape parametric EQ--->Boss CE-5 Chorus--->Boss DD-7 Delay--->Mr. Black Supermoon modulated reverb---->Return
Mesa pedal is the amp channel footswitch (that's my dirt pedal).

Re: The Newb's Rig
Thanks, mate. I really love the sounds I get from this set-up. We play sort of a mix of classic rock, blues, fusion, and funk/R&B/soul. All the tone bases are covered.

Mesa mini stack FTW.
I've got a TransAtlantic on top of two 1x12 cabs (Lonestar open backed and Thiele).

Re: The Newb's Rig
Thanks for the kind words, guys. It's refreshing since I encounter a lot of Mesa hate and hate from the purists ("ugh, it's not a real 335...") on some other forums.
Conway - the TA is a fantastic amp, and I bet that Thiele cabinet is a real winner, too.
Tonemaker - The Fromel is like the best kept secret, isn't it? I really, really love the simplicity of the layout and the complexity of the toneshaping you can get from it. It's so versatile, like multiple amps in a box.

Re: The Newb's Rig
Cripes, what for? almost every Boogie I’ve used has been great. If you’re after one amp that has a really good clean and a really good liquid overdrive channel, they are win, especially these new lower power ones. My one complaint about the big Mesas (and indeed many amps) is that to get it sounding as good as it can sound, you have to crank the snot out of it, and 100 watt amps cranked are unusable in most NZ gigs. So you pay all this money for an amp that you can’t get the most out of.Sustainz wrote:since I encounter a lot of Mesa hate and

Everyone on the internet hates everything, you get used to it after a while.

Re: The Newb's Rig
I wish you hadn't described your set-up as the whole enchilada, now I'm craving Mexican food...
But otherwise, awesome! No hate of gear on here, a wide mix of people, styles, tastes and wants means we pretty much cover all bases. Except basses, we don't like people talking about basses.

The Newb's Rig
That sounds like a wicked wee rig, very tempted by the mini rec myself!
I think the Mesa bashing is mostly just people having a reaction to 'that' scooped recto sound

Re: The Newb's Rig
Welcome.
I think you'll have trouble fitting in here though. Not because of the Epi (very nice in Natural) or the Mesa but because you're happy with your rig. Since many many posts here are about GASsing for new stuff or 'sootying' (a forum term for indecisive decision making ) about new gear a person who is happy with their rig may well get bored
Alternatively you'll read the posts and get infected with GAS. This can be expensive and hazardous to personal relationships. You have been warned
