A useful image of my sounds occurred to me:
Start with a great clean tone and add washes of colour to tint the original sound. Like a watercolour painting as opposed to an oil. Not saying it's better or worse, it's just my thing.
( Actually, I love watercolour paintings too.) Timmy and Les Lius are definitely watercolour pedals. The DLS isn't but that's OK because it gives me some of the JTM45 character I fell in love with... which I can then colour.
The Les Lius replaced a Catalinbread Formula 5 which has gone to Jeremyb and I have high hopes it will work really well for him. It's an oil painting pedal; powerful and unsubtle but still versatile when you take time to learn its ways.
I'm totally in love with the Les Lius. I thought they sounded amazing on Youtube and the reality is even better. Thank you Ben & Conway; it was a roundabout journey but the Les Lius has finally arrived home.
