More importantly, how's the G3? Any tonal improvement compared to the Boss?

The H90 is excellent. Very powerful with great effects. I use it 4 cable method so you can run algorithms either pre-amp or in the FX loop. Sound quality is fantastic - noticeably better than the previous H9 and leaves anything ever made by Line 6 in the dust.

You won't like to hear this, but the G3 confirmed very clearly what I had suspected about the Boss switcher units - they suck! Tone, that is. Badly. And the Boss buffers are crap. The Gigrig sounds pristine, just so much better.

Interesting. I use very short cables so maybe I don't notice it much. The tone suck with my 335 is barely audible.

Need to get one of them Gigrig things one day though...

Just the Boss unit itself with no loops engaged sucks tone. I compared my ES8 extensively to the G3.

Is it tone suck, or an aggressive buffer in the Gigrig? Which sounds closer to direct guitar-amp tone?

Gigrig. (You can use the buffer as a boost by raising the output volume but the buffer doesn't change the EQ/tone).

We could put the Boss ES-5 in one of the loops of your Gigrig and see if the tone changes when it is engaged...
