this is a '71 Jazz I got from the Rock Shop back in '96(?) when I went to get some strings
it had come in that day so you know timing is lucky

the better photo is by Dave at gearfest thread with Liam Finn holding it

rosewood fingerboard
pick ups are replaced, bog standard Fender's
originals I have but no good
light bass, very funky
do not hold tuning in warmth that well
usual neck dive :(
records well
goes hi-fi with Sadowsky Pre Amp.
ok for pick style rock but my technique (lack of) means I have not properly explored this.
guitarists like this Bass, IME guitarists like Precisions better.
a generalization if you will but the 5 bass players on here probably know what I'm getting at here.

Fender Prodigy Bass (MIA) - got it new when I was just starting and didn't really know how good it was... Other basses have come and gone but only this and a 70s/80s Kimbara Jazz copy have stayed around. Active PJ with stacked volume/pan and treble/bass pots. Jazz profile neck - very smooth to play and really versatile for sound...

presion Vs jazz - I started out a hard core Pbass guy and now.., it's like the jazz is the mistress,,
I think maybe my next build project will be a 55pbass body with a jazz neck, - anyone here got one of those fender s1 switches that changes the pickups in a P to sound J and V versa?

I'd say a standard push pull pot could do it.

Ha, thanks, I bought it on looks alone  I hesitate to say Ibanez when people ask what bass i play, Soundgears spring to most peoples minds and I abhor the connotations associated with owning a Soundgear :o

Here is a (not very well taken) picture of my new Classic Vibe P-Bass at our gig last Saturday night.
It was in a very small Ponsonby Road cafe and I took my CV, an Ashdown EVO II 300w head and an Ashdown 4 x 8 compact cab....

It's interesting how they've got this almost tele like scrathplate on an almost strat like body, eh? The bridge looks like its sitting on something along the lines of a Tele's ashtray, too. VERY interesting look.

I had no idea about the Soundgears associations in ppl's minds. Weird. Ibanez is a great brand.
