IMHO Jaguars were far from Leo's finest hour. So far in fact, that anything you change is likely to improve the things; except adding more switches.

Hollow body might be very cool though. All you'd have to do then is get rid of the stupid switches and bridge, replace the pickups with something better and you'd have... wait.... oh yeah, a Reverend.

Still reckon it was his best looking hour. Candy apple red or Lake Placid blue, and matching painted headstock. Coolest looking guitar ever.

Ofcourse given I had one, I still reckon its the coolest looking guitar ever, and yet I sold it, should say plenty about what I think of how well they play.

24" scale is too short, gets quite cramped above the 12th fret. Mine had quite a small radius fretboard (too rounded) and the fretboard seemed too narrow too - playing notes on the high E string and your finger could quite easily slip off the side off the fretboard.

Rhythm circuit isn't a bad idea, I guess, but a little bit pointless. It basically gives you a switch to flick between the lower controls (pickup selectors + Volume and Tone) and the upper controls (neck pickup only with dedicated volume and tone). Its not all that usable though as the switch is pretty hard to hit mid song (compared the the LP switch, which they also used on the Jazzmaster). The little pickup selectors down the bottom are equally annoying to use as the circuit selector. For all the complexity it doesn't offer you much different to the controls on an LP, and its not as easy to change on the fly (rolling back the volume on the rhythm circuit while playing is as annoying as switching circuits.

Also didn't like the pickups in mine, though it was a CIJ with a DiMarzio hot for Jag in the bridge and a stock Bit of rubbish at the neck (which I reckoned was the better sounding of the two.) too much treble, not enough twang or sustain.

Anyway, that's all YMMV and I may have just had a clanger (mid 90's CIJ). Hope yours is awesome and pulls the chicks!

Greetings from Kuala Lumpur. I'll do a report on the guitar shops I've visited up here when I get some time (probably once I'm home on the weekend). But here's what I have bought - a 2012 Special Edition Jaguar Thinline. Apparently only 250 thinlines have been made to celebrate 50 years of the Jaguar model, of which 100 are the 3 colour sunburst. I tried out 4 different Jaguars including the Johnny Marr signature model and the '65 Vintage, but this one looked and sounded the best to me. I've been playing it through an Amplug for the past 4 or 5 days and now that I've figured out how to use all the switches and dials, it's all kinds of awesome! The tonal varieties are huge for 2 single coils. Can't wait to get it home through the Mesa.

I saw quite a few PRS guitars in KL, both real and unreal, but steered clear of buying one - too controversial.

I know the Jaguar isnt everyone's cup of tea, but I really like it. The short scale doesn't give me any problems, I guess I've got small girly hands. I also bought it for my 12 year old daughter to play because she has a bit if trouble with full scale size. The solid body Jags have more rounded edges and body sculpting but the thinline is comfortable enough - compared to a Les Paul the Jag is thinner and lighter, so more comfortable to play. And all the switching options are a plus as far as I'm concerned. I don't change pickups mid song, so I don't find the type of switches a problem.
