Willow: Can't answer that fully until really cooking it at volume to get the powertubes fired up. However, in terms of pre-amp gain, the TMB side with the channel volume (gain) on full and the "Post-Phase-Inverter" master volume down to hushed late-night volume through the Tele bridge (Area-T) is...I would describe it as tight, ballsy rawk. Sounds to me like the people who came up with the "TMB" mod to the 1974X circuit achieved what they set out to achieve - taking a fantastic foundation (1974X) and give it some more tweakability in terms of EQ and dirt. You can dial in tones that are quite different and more modern than the 1974X channel - even entering 800 territory, but slightly lower gain... still I was like "Wooooooo how does that Billy Idol song go again!" hehe. Not nearly as dirty/raunchy as the AC30HWH on the Top Boost channel if that's an indication aswell. This suits me fine as I wouldn't want it to do high gain at the expense of those cleans and that awesome natural character. I tried hitting both channels with the Huckleberry fuzz, G2D Custom and Distotro Deluxe (Box of Rock with tweaks) and it accepted them really well, so I'm a happy happy boy. I'm sure I'll be able to coax more low volume dirt out of it when I try my Godin LG with its hot bridge humbucker into it, not to mention the MXR 78 Badass which has been my go-to highgainer for awhile now. Come over for a hoon if you're in town, brah!

Taylor: I was thinking about salt n pepper grill too! You have fantastic taste, sir :) I wonder if Ryan deals in grillcloth?

On the left is my laney cub12r, picked it up almost new for $400 a couple years back. Awesome sounding amp, I run it slightly dirty and use my guitar volume to clean it up if i need. Use my hotcake or black finger compressor to boost it for more sustain.

On the right is my fender mustang I amp, basically something I can plug some headphones into to jam at night. Sounds a ton better through the speaker though, i think it smoothens the digital edge off the sound.

Might sell the mustang as I have a hd500 now... time will tell

Last weekend I had all my amps in the one place (except for the Line 6 DT25) so took a family shot of them.
Left to right
The Swarts: STR Trem, 6v6se and SST30,
Marshall Vintage Modern 100w with matching cab
Rivera Clubster 25w 1x10
Fender DRRI
Marshall AFD100 with Bogner 2x12 oversize cab
Marshall JMP1 50th anniversary combo
CAB built 5E3

Lots of choice but I still gravitate back to the SST30 - not a bad sound in it. Now i think my amp gas is under control I will lookto thin the herd a bit over the next wee while......guitar gas building once more....its a never ending cycle
:)

Mmm, Deluxe Reverb and CAB 5E3. I've said it before, but the CAB built 5E3 at the last Tron fest is the best sounding 5E3 I've ever heard.
