What's the opposite of an Iceman?

it has to be a Fireman:

You can blame Paul Gilbert for the idea and Matman for this incarnation of it with an S-series neck and BKP Crawlers on board.

Cool cool cool.

Like it more now that it's been Korina coloured than when I saw it last week. I'm sure matman will be stoked!

now thats pretty cool Adrian...I never liked guitars with the lower bout/horn bigger than the top (apart from an explorer of course) so turning it around makes so much sense!

Well done!

Is that the straplock or the ouputjack on the top of the little tail, and where is the other (straplock/jack if you see what i mean)?

I think the straplock is 'just' visible at the end of the top horn in the last photo

That evokes memories. That Fireman is the same shape as the Ibanez bass I've mentioned before that was in the Rockshop, when I bought a Jazz Bass in '97. I thought it was an excellent player, with a quite good sound, but that shape!! I just couldn't be seen in public with it, or even in the mirror at home for that matter. Definitely not a Rog-suitable design, or I would have bought it, based on playability, even though I'd previously had a bad experience with owning an Ibanez Soundgear bass. That's one mistake (Soundgear) I shan't make again.

That looks utterly ridiculous.
In the same way an Explorer looks ridiculous.

I really like Explorers. 8)

I'm almost tempted to strip the Korinacaster and have the amber finish applied.. mmmmmmmm
Love your work, Mr Ash sir!

Ah thank ye, good gentlefolk!

I'm not a fan of the reversed body concept on this one, but other than that it has a lot going for it. These Crawlers are an unusual beast, too. They don't sound like any other humbucker I've heard. Super clear... dangerous to the sloppy player.

Yuss!!!! Beyond stoked with how that's looking Adrian! Can't wait to play it. :D :D :D

Yes, I realised that the shape would be divisive. There were a few factors in deciding to go that way.
1. As I've mentioned before - my first guitar was an Iceman. I learned to play on it and owned it for more than 20 years (before selling it to partially fund this build). I loved how it played despite how heavy it was and the neck dive from hell created by that crazy shape. The Super 70s pups in it were sweet and warm but lacked crunch for rock rhythm. This is sort of a tip of the hat to that guitar while solving both of those issues.
2. Bit of a Paul Gilbert fan boi but no way would I ever dream of paying the US$10K that it costs for a 'real' fireman.
3. I thought if I was going to get Adrian to make something, I should go for something a bit left field to make it even more custom/special - this definitely fits the bill.

Just in case anyone wants to play spot the difference:

I asked Adrian to change the volume knob position so that I can reach it with my pinky. Obviously have gone for humbuckers over single coils (though Paul does have a couple of custom ones with HBs), and the headstock is 6 on 1 instead of 3+3
