NGD - Charvel Strat
Hey guys,
I picked this up a few weeks ago. I got it on Trademe. I was bidding on it and wasn't too sure what it was worth, so wasn't really confident to go much higher than $640, and it eventually sold for $680. After the auction, you guys were all talking about how cheaply it went, and I was kicking myself for not bidding any further.
I had a brainwave and flicked a message on one of the winning bidders auctions that if he didn't like it, I'd be keen to buy it.
Sure enough - after about a week - he replied stating that he hated the neck and offered it to me at my highest bid.
I got it and it needed a massive setup, and the wiring didn't work. I replaced the pot and the input jack, and gave it a setup. It took me ages to do - as it was my first time with a floyd rose, but I eventually got it setup really nicely.
It really is a fantastic guitar. I absolutely love it - I always backed away from superstrats because I can't use floyd roses, and can't shred!!!
One thing I didn't like about it was the matt black pickguard that it came with. I didn't want to buy another pickguard for it, as I'd prob have to get one from overseas. So I went to a signwriter and got some white sticky plastic that they make the letters etc out of and stuck it over the pickguard. It came up really well, and actually is very resiliant. I might head back there, and grab some other colours or something for my other guitars. The thin white looks wicked over the black of the pickguard and black screws - I've included a closeup pic.
Anyway - here it is....

Oh you got it! Awesome.
If you decide you'd rather have an amp than a Charvel..... let me know. Haha.
Good call with the white, looks way better than the black did.
Oh, and DIBS!

thanks -it sticks out like a sore toe next to my other guitars - but it has really grown on me.jeremyb wrote:Sweet score, like the colour too!!
I picked up those fluro pink dimarzios the other day. I was going to put them in it, along with a yellow knob, and make it look like the vai one here, but it doesn't quite look right.

Yes. I had a similar colour on an Ibanez GRX70 once. It did not have a pickguard, which I liked a lot aesthetically speaking.hamo wrote:... well done on a great score.

Not really the right type of green to work with the pink I guess.AiRdAd wrote: I picked up those fluro pink dimarzios the other day. I was going to put them in it, along with a yellow knob, and make it look like the vai one here, but it doesn't quite look right.

You could use a real Charvel as reference: Vai's 'eat 'em and smile' tour Green Meanie Charvel:
