Jazzmaster and Jaguar
While I had the telecaster out for pics, I snapped some pics of these guitars. I've had them a while, but don't think I've posted any yet.
The purple one is a J Mascis Jazzmaster and the second one is a Fender Jaguar VI six string bass

How do you find playing the Bass VI?
I've strung a baritone up with Bass VI strings but I've never quite known whether I liked it or not.

I actually really like it. I wasn't sure what to expect. When I got it, the action wasn't very good, and I didn't gel with it. I spent a good amount of time setting it up, and after i did that, I clicked with it.Vince wrote:How do you find playing the Bass VI?

I was tossing up with getting a baritone, I played Uniques one, and loved it. The difference with this one over a baritone is the scale length is two inches longer. I have put some baritone strings on it and although I liked it, it felt too similar to a guitar, and some of the cool things with sound and feel weren't there, so i've got the bass strings back on. You can capo the 2nd fret with the baritone strings to shorten the scale length too.
The guitar is very playable. It is not as much of a step away from a guitar that a four string bass is, it's somewhere in the middle. For this reason, I would imagine that someone like Tony or you who play both bass and guitar would like it. I'd def recommend you try one out Vince, the Rockshop have got them.

Interesting. Next time I have some time to kill in Wellie, I might do that.AiRdAd wrote:I'd def recommend you try one out Vince, the Rockshop have got them.

Re: Jazzmaster and Jaguar
Yeap - It's tuned to an E, and is an octave below normal guitar. Depending what string guage you use, you could do lots of different tunings. With the 30 inch scale length, you can take the scale length down by using a capo.cholera wrote:What's the Bass VI tuned to Danny? Just E standard? I imagine if you want you could down pretty good on that with the extra length ? (Scale length JB...)

They look cooler than the pawnshop ones - more of a vintage vibe to them.robnobcorncob wrote:Played a Squier Bass VI yesterday at Musicplanet (Wgtn) very cool!

Turns out Music Planet had one as well.AiRdAd wrote:I'd def recommend you try one out Vince, the Rockshop have got them.

Very nice indeed, very playable. The frets were all where I expected them (as a bass player) and the high E felt quite thick and comfortable, a little like the G on a bass.
When I strung my Dano baritone with Bass VI strings, I found the result a bit muddy, but this had a nice, well defined, sound too.

The MIJ ones are vintage spec too and will be killer if they're anything like other Fender Japan instrumentsAiRdAd wrote:They look cooler than the pawnshop ones - more of a vintage vibe to them.robnobcorncob wrote:Played a Squier Bass VI yesterday at Musicplanet (Wgtn) very cool!
