NAD: Blonde goodness

Post by bender »

This has been in the pipeline for a little while now- sorting out speakers, replacing the baffle, new grill cloth etc...

This is the AB165 Bassman (aka the Assman) ex strummers. The cab originally had 2x 10s, but he wanted to keep those, so I got a couple of new baffles made- one for a 15" and the other for a 12". I had intended to put my JBL D120F in it, and save for a suitable 15", and then what should pop up on Trademe but a 15" JBL E130! Finally got it together today and, boy howdy, it sounds great! The 15" is just superb. I still ned to install the piggyback mounting thumbscrews, and source some tilt back legs. Probably need deeper feet too as these don't quite clear the handle.

FYI, the cab was made by Livesound in Auckland and it's awesome.

Much like, and with a 15" JBL, this will shake the house down.

I approve of this blonde. Bet it sounds good with the reverb tank!

Funny you should say that- the 63 Reverb reissue has never sounded this good!

Great stuff!

The E130's are great speakers but oh so heavy.
I have one in my Excelsior & it has the paper dust cap which cuts back on some of the brightness.
Epiphone Riviera P93 & EJ200CE, Hagstrom Viking Bass, Doubleneck bass/guitar.
Rivera Clubster 45, Carvin AG100D, Ashton BSK158.

Very nice Ben. Love 15" speakers too, that extra three inches gives the sound at least another foot :)

The cab is actually not too bad weight-wise. The head has huge transformers so this rig would be crushing as a combo.

Buy a farm on South Island... anything less will lead to tone compromises

Was there any issue matching the impedance? I'd contemplated a 15" extension cab for my Victoria but it's running out to 2.7 ohms (Super Reverb was just 2 ohms) so I was a bit confused about how I'd make an extension cab work without having, say, 2 ohms running into 8 (assuming the 15" speaker was 8 and I wired it with the three 8 ohms 10" speakers in a series/parallel malarkey).

No trouble at all- it has an 8ohm output.

You might need a bit more than a Swart Night Light for that one.
