Brand spanking new. I tried this and a tribute model and loved both. This one had a slight edge over the tribute but both were really great to play, and I’d definitely recommend trying one of the current tributes if you’re that way inclined. Up until these, I haven’t played a special with a neck that I’ve liked, other than GrantB’s vintage one. Both had a satisfyingly chunky neck, with this one being just a bit bigger. It’s a great player and sounds awesome. No modding required beyond a setup. I just have to resist the urge to put a Bigsby on it.

Choice! Great guitars. Like a Tele is for many, a 2 x P90 guitar would have to be my Desert Island axe.

Yeah, I’m a bit the same. Sometimes I think it’s a Gretsch, but P-90s are what I constantly keep coming back to.

I really like the stock pickups and have absolutely no need to change them… but I really like the idea of trying some staple pickups. I’ve only played one guitar with one in it, but remember really loving it.

Curious about fitting a bigsby - run the strings over the stop tail a-la JJN, or is there an easy retrofit for an abr/tune-o-matic?

There's a bridge called a bowtie bridge which sits on the surface of the guitar for use with a bigsby. They were used on original goldtops that were Bigsby equipped. Gilmour's famous goldtop used on the solo of Another Brick has one.

Imho, I think Gibson P90's are hard to beat. They got it right. If you are in the mood for modding, have you considered 50's wiring? Really opens them up, and to my cloth ears can make the mids less congested.

Beaut guitar, btw.

I love the staple neck pickup in my BBR5. I'd say give it a shot.
