NGD - Fender Coronado

Post by Dano_NZ »

I've slowed down a bit in terms of GAS but couldn't resist this one. Most likely 1967 given the neck dates however there is some confusion as the serial number starts with a 5 (which would put it in the 70's).

However from https://www.frettedamericana.com/produc ... oronado-ii

"According to Werner's List, the serial number range 501,282 to around 503,000 were shipped between September 1966 and January 1967."

Just put a mint NOS trem on it, which I probably paid way too much for on Reverb, but completes the look.

Sounds jazzy in the neck and twangy in the bridge.

Congrats
I had one of those for a while.
Quite a unique, sensitive but great trem
Pickups are an aquired taste. I think they are great guitars
Good score

I did a refret on mine. Was one of two guitars I refretted myself, after which I vowed not to do a third.

Was the refret difficult with the bound fretboard? I understand that Fender installed frets sideways in the old fenders.

I didn't remove the binding. I just nibbled the tang
Yes I find everything to do with frets difficult
I actually got an ok result tho.

I think I did a refret on Ben’s one. Pretty straightforward.

Awesome! I love the trem on these. I really enjoyed mine, but ultimately found the neck too slim for my ham fisted playing.

I had one too, but I must admit I didn't like it much.

Tube amp and guitar tones straight from 1958… amazing how believable the sounds were back then, even without the modellers...

if o had mine again, I’d get Glynn to rewind the bridge pickup- it was the weak point to me.
