What’s a 78 Tele custom worth?
I’ve seen a “players grade” 75 Tele deluxe/Custom, black, single coil bridge, wide range humbucker neck.
Rough condition, missing parts, non original case, paint on back has been scrapped off in some sort of pattern so would need a refinish as I think it has been scrapped back to the wood.
It’s not out yet but could be available in a few weeks at a pawn shop if the owner doesn’t pay it back.
In doing some research I’m struggling to find an equivalent online to get a gauge on a price, given the dead market and its rough players grade condition I’d say it could still be $1500-2k?

Agree with your assessment Reg.

Re: What’s a 75 Tele worth?
If it were original but worn condition I could see it achieving $4k
Transactions on reverb as a guide $4-6 looks like international market
Those original fender CuNiFe wrh can go for quite a bit on their own. Like $500 nzd each or more.
I wouldn’t say the nz market is totally dead, but there are deals to be had for sure.
I’d have to see it to get a proper idea of value, oh and play it. Same caveat for all 70s fenders etc ….
So yeh prob around $2k mark
Given its pretty knackered

I might have a purge in anticipation of having a crack at this guitar.
Anyone want a 2005 Fender Strat Deluxe power house
Or a minty condition Orange Tiny Terror?

Re: What’s a 75 Tele worth?
Details of Powerhouse Strat here: price would be amended for people here.
https://www.trademe.co.nz/music-instrum ... 696981.htm
Tiny Terror is a head, but barely used, case mint, IEC cable still in the plastic with an original Orange catalogue included from around late 2000s for those of us who remember when they were released it’s a bit of a time capsule.
Other items that could be for sale
Boss Volume pedal with Klon Buffer installed
TV Jones Classic neck and bridge in nickel (with TV Jonex cream coloured humbucker size rings)
Ibanez TS7
Might even put the Tweed Blues Junior on the table too depending.

Haha, I’ve got another person first in line for that if I do let it go, no one has talked money mind you, and in todays market nothing is selling for what it used too, hence why I think I might have a chance at buying this 70s Tele.

Re: What’s a 75 Tele worth?
So I went in for a closer look, confirmed it’s going to be reasonably priced but won’t be out for another month assuming it doesn’t get paid off. I’d like to know from the experts if most of it looks original?
It didn’t play well, felt like it had massive gauge strings and bends were hard. it could have been extra tension because the string Ferrels were missing? Could that cause extra tension?

And for the biggest issue, the back! Although perhaps some people might love the artists atheistic ……I’m not one of those people and would do a refinish.
Neck humbuckers sounded good, bridge pickup was thin and ice picky! Assuming both would be original looking at them.

Re: What’s a 75 Tele worth?
Wow
Was it heavy ?
So is it a balck refin over red with then red splattered on?
Could be cool. The thick poly on the neck is making me shudder.
In saying that its obviously been played to heck if that upper bout wear is legit. The neck wear would suggest so. My rule of thumb is if a guitar has been played that much its probably a good one.
The switch is obviously an after market replacment. The siz saddle bridge looks orginal but im not a fan of those on teles. Otherwise looks legit.
I wouldnt be buying it as a money maker, id be totally guided by how it plays and sounds.

Re: What’s a 75 Tele worth?
It’s hard to know what it’s worth tbh, i imagine it will require a lot of scraping to get that poly off and might be better to try and remove what I can and leave it as a relic type thing. I love a good summer project though and although I’m assuming my modern MIM Strat is probably a better playing and sounding guitar, for not much more I’d rather something with a story to tell like this.StrummersOfThunder wrote: ↑Fri Sep 20, 2024 2:02 pm Wow

I do already own a 73 Tele which I love so it’s not for any practical reason I’d be buying it.
Edit: serial number puts it at 1978 I think? Not 75

Re: What’s a 75 Tele worth?
Actually, not as bad as I was expecting. Yes, '78.
Neck looks good. Tuners are there - these are hard to get correct replacements. Modern ones are wrong sized Refretting these poly coated boards is a proper job...just consider that you'll need to spend reasonable money to get that done well.
Body is any easy peasy fix...as long as you only go as deep as the top coats. If you want to remove the Fullerplast, you'll need a nuclear reactor.
Saddles are not original...probably good.
If the pickups are original probably worth more than you were thinking.
