According to the currency conversion calculator, this guitar would cost me about $3500 NZD - nearly three times what I sold it for - and that's not counting shipping and customs charges.

Farewell old friend.

My old Strat - bought from Musical Sounds in Greenlane in 1996, when I was working part time there while studying performing arts in Auckland. My first Strat. It was second hand when I got it but in pretty much mint condition - and looked prety much like it does now when I sold it to a mate for some blankets and a muskett about 4 years ago. Pretty much all that wear and tear is mine, genuine too, years of playing, no fake relic'ing there.

1988 '57 reissue, I had Ray Mercer flatten out the fretboard radius for me. It was supposed to be 9.5", but Ray decided he knew better and did 12" - 15" conical. Not what I asked for, which was annoying. The truss rod never worked properly, but Weta workshop did some work getting the neck straight enough for my normal 11-48 guage. Little issues like the truss rod and the overdone fretboard planing used to bug me a little, and I ended up deciding I would be better off with something new with less little niggles. But I guess I underestimated the bond I had with this guitar. I feel like I sold my arm. Stupid thing is, I had a chance to get it back before my mate sold it to this Australian guy, but I let it go again. I had my new Strat and I was pretty excited about it, so I just let this go after rather a lot of agonising.

Thing is, if I hadn't have sold this, I wouldn't have been able to get the Dr Z, which I also love. Also, My Orange Reverend and this red/pink Strat clash horribly! Lol. I always wished it was sunburst or something. It's one of those things, you don't know what you've got until it's gone.

Yes the guy's selling it. He was going to be taking it to the states next week to offer to some dealer over there, but he's not now that I've showed an interest. No way I can afford to fork out $3.5 NZD plus for it though. Kinda hoping my mate in Sydney might buy it so I'll at least know where it is. Ironically it'd probably be more affordable for me to buy it from the States with the exchange rates as they are.

Shame to watch your dream Strat slip away forever.

Seems like way too much money being asked 'tho.
It's just wood and metal. And plastic.

Yeah, I agree. Don't think it's worth that much.

Do they do one with Fender on the headstock?

No even better it has customer support and you pay for what you get, instead of what you should have got. :[ Too much scrutiny?

edit: you're not wrong though those are sweet gats, just don't think brand should ever REALLY factor into a guitar that you want to play (not own per se)
