Upgrades! I've just upgraded my MB, CPU and Ram. Was still on XP. Too cheap to buy Windows 7 while Windows 8 is free. Only problem is my WIFI card doesn't have any drivers that seem to work perfectly, the one I have sometimes just randomly stops working, pain in the ass!

Windows 8 free? Just for testing isnt it? License expires?
I had a dream last night, that everything I have got replaced with an exact replica.... (Steven Wright)
Re: gear :D
Doesn't expire until Jan 2013 so why not use it? I see they just released the final preview last week so I will upgrade to that this week (will steal the ISO from work and save the download bandwidth)
It's not too bad really, installs really fast and loads pretty quickly as well. I don't really use the "Metro" side of things at all (that's more for tablets IMO) so it's just like using Windows 7 without a start button (which you can get back if you realllly want....)

Re: gear :D
Troglodyte that I am, when I installed XP I set everything to Win95 appearance. I only intend to upgrade to 7 when I replace my boot drive, since XP is stable, doesn't crash, and if you don't install every damn thing you come across it's pretty quick.
That said, I'm using a Razer Blackwidow keyboard, a Razer mouse, 28" LCD, a video card with a big F off heatsink... (which unfortunately cannot keep up in warcraft when the screen is FULL of characters running around throwing around one gross of different spell effects...)

Re: gear :D
I had to upgrade, started doing some Android App development and my system couldn't handle it. Plus XP has a limit of 3/4 gigs of ram and that was a little bit different to the 16 gigs I have at work

Wow how do you turn off the metro side of it, I had a play with it but tiles without a touchscreen bothered me... I didnt know there was an option...SammyD wrote:Doesn't expire until Jan 2013 so why not use it?
