Re: NGD - Jazzmaster! (with in depth review)
I'm sort of in this situation and I'm thinking 2 guitars which cover as many bases as possible. So for me this would be the Les Paul and a Telecaster of some description.
Never liked Strats that much. Live they make me feel like I'm trying to cut through cement with a butter knife. The Les Paul is like bringing a sledgehammer.

First up, sorry, but LOL ... thats hilarious.mr_sooty wrote: I'm going to be really honest and say that I'm not really feeling that excitied about this purchase. It's a great guitar, but I was really comfortable with the Strat and this is like starting all over again, which is less fun than I thought it would be. In all honesty I'd happily do a direct swap for the guitar I sold.
and if you still had the strat you'd still have a guitar you weren't really happy with and you'd be looking at that loverly green grass over the fence.

If I could only have one, I'd look for a 335 or a reverend flatfoot like sooty has. ( not orange though)

Well look at us and our fancy new Les PaulRhettsauce wrote:I'm sort of in this situation and I'm thinking 2 guitars which cover as many bases as possible. So for me this would be the Les Paul and a Telecaster of some description.

This is what I want to have:
- Strat (HSS)
- Tele (with 4-way switch)
- LP
- Something with P90s
- Semi-hollow
- Something metal/shreddy
That just about covers all I think I'll ever need. Well I think I'm already kind of there, but the exact guitars will probably take fine tuning yet.

Give it time Cam, it's a Jazzmaster, it's not a strat so of course it'll sound different. Think about what type of music people play on Jazzmasters (i.e SURF!) and maybe learn a song or two in that vein and you will nail the tone with that thing. Strats are dime a dozen, Jazzmasters are thin on the ground (although easier to acquire than in the past with Fender rolling out many offset variations).
Why two Telecasters? (Having said that Tele's do kick serious butt so I wouldn't complain!)Rhettsauce wrote:

A Standard Tele for twangy Tele-ness.
And a Deluxe for more rock stuff... and because I like Shihad.

Yeah truth be told though, it doesn't sound anything like a traditional Jazzmaster. That Pulp Fiction clip someone posted, yeah nah, my guitar don't sound like that. Obviously I'm gonna have to try some different pickups.robnobcorncob wrote: Think about what type of music people play on Jazzmasters (i.e SURF!) and maybe learn a song or two in that vein and you will nail the tone with that thing.

Who cares if it doesn't sould like traditional JMs? If you like what it sounds like now why change the pickups??

Well ultimately this is the issue. Looks cool, plays great, just not sold on the tone. Couldn't take any good pics today, too much rain!SammyD wrote:Who cares if it doesn't sould like traditional JMs? If you like what it sounds like now why change the pickups??

The beauty about diving in to what feels like a mess can be made into something good. Be proud that you took action & done it. Stick at it and I reckon you'll be inseparable with that axe in six months.
