E-shape moving over the fretboard - not barred

Post by wifiabc »

Hi,
Starting at 1:32 of the video, he explained that by moving the E-shape to the 6th fret and that becomes A chord. Don't we have to barre the fifth fret for this to be an A?

Yes, the chord he's calling an 'A' should probably be called an Aadd9/E. If you barred it so the 6th, 2nd and 1st string were fretted at the fifth fret, that would be an A. What he's calling "different voicings of an A" is really a different chord based on an A but changing some notes that don't belong in a plain A major. I would take anything this guy says with a grain of salt as far as theory goes, but these are all nice chords you can throw in instead of the ordinary chord, just try it and see if it works for the particular song.

There are buttloads of songs that use that chord progression.

Look up Kings of Leon 'Fans', Radiohead 'High and Dry' amongst others.
Nothing to see here.
