Favorite Neck Contour/Shape
What's your favorite neck contour/shape?
Personally I quite like a decent-sized C shape, although I used to have a '59 Les Paul replica that was very comfy too. I have kind of medium-small hands but with very long, thin fingers.
I've never had the pleasure of playing a soft V or asymmetrical shaped neck - I like the idea of both but would need some hands-on experience.

Re: Favorite Neck Contour/Shape
Shape and contour don't really bother me. I can play any. I do like V shaped necks though. I've tried assymetrical too and didn't really notice any difference in ease of playing.

I don't really find the neck contour/shape changes the scales I play, same old licks and scales no matter what the guitar.cwco wrote:and what about different scales?

Re: Favorite Neck Contour/Shape
A ha, it says C shape, but how many different C shaped necks does Fender produce?
According to their website, it is the same C shaped neck that's on the classic player jazzmasters - And they turned out to be very noticeably thinner after a side by side comparison.

I just like 'em fat. When I ordered my Cole Clark Strat, they asked me what I wanted. I said, make it big and fat, like a baseball bat, only fatter, and with the smallest frets that they can find.. It's incredibly perfect, bless them. It's so good that I've never quiet been satisfied with my G&L's neck since.

Re: Favorite Neck Contour/Shape
I've recently discovered that I like fatties. My LP has a 50's neck and my Tele is a fattish C.
When I pick them up, it's like they say to me, "We both know you can't play fast, so settle in a play some languid bluesy stuff."

That's interesting, I suspected this may be the case as the Fender descriptions are so vague.Single coil wrote:A ha, it says C shape, but how many different C shaped necks does Fender produce?

It's quite a big neck for what it is. I once picked up an Esquire that had an even bigger neck... Really nice too.

I prefer frigidaire, though I spose that's a mode rather than a scale....cwco wrote:and what about different scales?

Re: Favorite Neck Contour/Shape
I prefer them fat but can work with thin if the nut is wide. In fact I really lke my old ES-335 neck and it's quite thin. D shape is also good...but a fat C works too. Actually, I'll give most necks a go.
And also Natalie Portman.
