I felt like it was time that I played a super crazy mad expensive Les Paul. Thanks Matt for facilitating this.
To say it's the best Les Paul I've ever played is not hyperbole. That's all you need to know. (but if you NEED to know, I also did a fun medley of some iconic LP riffs/solos)
Great playing and the guitar sounds great! Is it all Mark V or did is there some AFD100 in there for the Slash sounds?
Ofcourse I reckon my LP is the best LP I've played, so I'd be keen to get your opinion at the next gearfest or whenever on how my LP stacks up. That or I'll have to track this one down for a tyre kick session at the RS.

Great question. I'd originally intended to rock the AFD for part of it, but in the end I just went Mk V all the way... and dammit if it doesn't sound good I think I set the Mk V to sound like a Marshall anyway...

The Historic LP's really are a significant cut above the "regular" Gibson USA stuff. As a plank of wood, they have a ton more resonance and "meat". Whether you like the plugged in tone of them though is very subjective. They really are more vintage accurate, but not everybody wants vintage style tone. Modern LP's sound great too!
I've just forgone my much-loved LP Standard for a Historic R8. My Standard was a good 'un, but the R8 is definitely a step up. Very happy with it!

Once you have played a Historic LP its hard to go back. They really are different from the rest.
I have owned my R7 for over 11 years now and very few LPs come close to it. I still have a few LP standards, but they tend to be unloved under the bed these days. The big fat neck on the R7 is a great fitting neck for my hands.
great tone Ed. Hard to beat an R9 for vintage vibe without the $200k price tag!
