there's a guy on Youtube who does a series where he buys a Rickenbacker copy and does it up. The body is OK, but all the hardware is junk, the pickups are terrible, electrics terrible, frets terrible.
In the end, he spends the price of a used Rickenbacker on it, and still doesn't have the real thing. Personally, I'd much rather save up twice the money and look out for a bargain SG, LP Studio or Junior.

Got quite a few different ones from a handful of Malmsteen strats to some King V's and after a fret dress, set up and sometimes a pickup swap out, they kick major ass and have some of the best neck profiles of any gat I've come across.
