Need help identifying how serious neck crack is.

Post by Reg18 »

Looking at this Epiphone Les Paul but it has a crack at the headstock. It is on both sides but I’m unsure if it’s just a lacquer crack or something more serious.
I’ve played it in person and there wasn’t any movement on the headstock.
What’s this guitar worth and if it’s cracked is it repairable?

No idea what it is worth but that crack isn't "just the lacquer". It might be stable now but as things cool down over winter it could easily start shifting ....proceed with caution

Yeah think your both right, got a bit exited as he only wants $300 but it could be more trouble than it’s worth.

I could just imagine changing strings on it and as you wind the tension off the top of the neck falls off

If it did split, it would be a pretty easy fix with wood glue, clamps and a syringe. Offer him $150. If he's keen but you still don't want it, send it this way!

A long auger drill and a bit of rebar smothered in glue chucked in the hole and it's all sorted!
He hit a chord that rocked the spinet and disappeared into the infinite ...
