I prefer light guitars, must with my Strat and see what it comes to!

I was wondering what you guys consider as "heavy" strat?

Re: What do you guys consider as "heavy" strat??
I totally agree with you. It is 400g difference (3.8kg vs 3.4kg) which is like a can of beans. Can of beans itself doesn't feel much but that small difference makes a huge difference on strats, I find this very interesting since 3.8kg on a Les Paul doesn't feel "heavy"Lyle wrote: ↑Tue May 03, 2022 6:49 am I've found it doesn't take much extra weight for a guitar to feel heavy. I have a strat that feels "heavy" to me which is around 3.8kg and a lighter strat that's around 3.4kg.
The 3.8kg was my main gigging guitar and didn't give me any issues, but I had a Les Paul that was around 4.5kg that was a really struggle to play standing for long periods (but I'm not very big!).

Lighter strats tend to be a trend where it makes it sound "better". I feel like I am getting convinced because everyone is saying itolegmcnoleg wrote: ↑Tue May 03, 2022 6:50 am There is a myth that somehow lighter Strats and Teles sound better. You don’t need to buy into it. (The really light ones are often swamp ash, not alder.)
If you have found a Strat that works for you and is still comfortable, then I say stick with it.

That must be, I don't my poor back can hold 6kgs, I already found 3.8kg strat heavyJay wrote: ↑Tue May 03, 2022 7:06 am I built a strat from merbau (type of kwila) floorboards and kanuka neck. It weighs in at just under 6kg.
It is so heavy that you can only play Lay down Sally, when you are sitting with support cushions around you.
It needs a full scale operation to hollow the body out and get it to shed 2kgs.

Yeah I agree, I heard that elastic/ rubber straps can make it feel much lighter on the shouldersLyle wrote: ↑Tue May 03, 2022 9:01 amMy LP is bang on 4kg. I wonder if the strap helps too, I have a thick leather strap that holds it fairly stable on my shoulder. My "heavy" strat has a cheaper strap and slips and slides around a bit.

For a guitar, no. My other strata are lighter and I did a korina body once which was offensively light.
So, is that low alcohol or no alcohol at all? mmmm, no alcohol, do you want to try it? Noooooooooo.

Was going to edit strata but perhaps that’s the correct collective noun….

The one I remember being very heavy was a 1975 Stratocaster. I don’t know the weight but I’m sure it would have been well over 4kilo. The 1972 one I have now is 3.6kilo and is manageable.
