I'm actually in the BOP and you are right - if it aint broke, don't replace it. I'd much rather spend the money on getting the sigma perfect again than replacing it, and $300-500 is well within what i would deem acceptable to restore the old girl. I think i'll look at the calendar and see when i can road trip to Welly or Ash custom in Auckland.
