Update: all the money is back in my account. Receipt was a fake. Guitar is real, but not his. His name is allegedly Paul Brook, and he clearly isn't as smart and hard to track down as he thinks he is.

That's awesome, I saw someone else was scammed by him on one of the Facebook groups, hopefully he gets the same result.

There’s so much fake gear floating around now that I’ve chosen to go back to reputable retailers

Hi all,
I have a Fender Japan strat and I have small doubts about how original it is. Has a G serial on the neck, I think plays and sounds like a .. 1987 Fender Japan but on the neck connection has too much writing and a stamp that appears like Jan 22 1990 even if the serial number indicates a 1987-88.
Any Fender experts could say an opinion?

Looks fine to me. A forgery wouldn't have any such detail in the neck pocket. That'd be reserved for pre-CBS malarkey. Pickups look like a set I had once. I researched them and the Strat forum's consensus was that they were originally from a Japanese Strat.

It’s original - those pickups look like the ceramic things the Japanese made fenders used for a while . I don’t like them personally and a nice set in there would make a lot of difference I would think.

Id have to say you are correct in thinking its likely to be from 1990 as vs 1987
