Seven string gas

Post by mop »

I'm really gassing for a seven atm, what do you reckon I can get for ~$700?
There's sweet FA around on trademe for that sort of price that I can see.
I'm in contact with a guy in invercargill who's keen to ship me his ltd viper 407 for $700, good deal/rip-off? Has anyone owned/played one of those who could comment on what they're like?

If you are talking about this:

http://www.trademe.co.nz/Music-instrume ... 373103.htm

Then I say score. If I was interested in SG style shapes, I'd snap it up. Mahog body, set neck, EMG actives, etc that thing is sweet for that price mate. 25.5 scale but no drama's. the only other option for bang for buck IMO is to wait for an old player Ibanez 7621 or 7421 to come up but then at $700 it would not be as clean or have the pups upgraded. unless you come across someone stupid like me who sold my last one for 550 S=R :|

It looks like money well spent mate IMO dude

Yeah that's the one. I figured it was a score, that's why I jumped on it right away. I thought I'd see what else you could get for that kind of dosh before I committed myself though as I've never really paid a lot of attention to what seven strings go for used (or new for that matter).
Thanks dude, you've convinced me to run with that option 8)
Now I've just got to sell a bunch more stuff so I can pay my student loan back for it  Someone buy my tremonti already!

That guy offer his guitar and $150 for my Kelly. If I had any use for another guitar let alone a 7 string I would have said yes. Most 400series 6 string LTDs are in that price range (if not higher) on TM.
Hmmm....Its niiiiiice

Yeah I've seen a few of his swap offers around now that I think about it, I know he's after a new 6 string to replace the 7.

Thanks for the heads up, I would have been very interested but I've already said I'll definitely take the viper (as long as it's in good nick, the photos on tm were rubbish but I should find out at the weekend).
Good luck if you do decide to sell it :D

So did you end up getting the Viper 7 mate?

I just bought a cheap Jackson 7 (DX7) that is pretty cool, obviously not as good as the Viper but it has low action and plays pretty nicely. I'm thinking about selling it, upgrade the pickups/electronics and you're away laughing. Let me know if you're keen 8)

Welcome to my nightmare.... I just couldn't justify it personally except for some really low chug chugz. I barely make use of seven.

It's funny that people would assume the low F# is easily used as a crutch for a chug-fest. Amusingly I use it for clean, often finger picked sections far more than I do in any distorted contexts. Even then I generally only use it percussively and rarely.
