Your Dream Collection
So; the old 'Gas and a big wad of cash' fantasy.
Much as I like vintage instruments and would certainly acquire some, I'd like to build a collection of guitars from current luthiers. There's some fabulous stuff being made today; possibly in the long term even better than some of the great vintages.
For example:
http://www.nikhuber-guitars.com/ German precision
http://willcuttguitars.com/mcinturff-guitars Hating aside, this guy has a reputation for really knowing what he is doing.
http://www.collingsguitars.com/ Never played their electrics. Their acoustics are breathtaking.
http://www.manzer.com/guitars/ Scott Chinery said the key to a lifetime of happiness was owning a Manzer guitar. Check out her inlays.
http://www.avalonguitars.com/index.php Some Irish acoustic magic.
James Trussart. Website is down. Those rusty steel Teles are so cool that a dozen of them would be welcome on my lawn even if they were unplayable......which they're not....apparently.
So like the ad says, "What would you do?"

Beyond a critical point within a finite space, freedom diminishes as numbers increase. This is as true of humans as it is of gas molecules in a sealed flask. The human question is not how many can possibly survive within the system, but what kind of existence is possible for those who so survive.

Your Dream Collection
Not entirely on topic but It struck me recently, that I've accumulated a rather unique and eclectic collection of nz made gear. Amps, pedals and a guitar. Some recent, some very vintage. All rare or one off.
Might have to do a bit of a photo shoot and write up about them soon.

Re: Your Dream Collection
Don't have time to write a considered post with links, but I'd go something like:
Gibson Zakk Wylde custom bullseye vee (in fact the complete-ist in me would probably bag a set of his original sig models, bullseye, buzzsaw and camo bullseye Les Pauls to go with it)
Gibson Les Paul in desert or iced tea burst. Not knowledgeable enough to be fussy about year or specs.
Adrian Smith signature Jackson San Dimas
Charvel So Cal
ASH Customworks superstrat, quite possibly based on Dave Murray's strat
Gretsch Brian Setzer Hot Rod in green
ESP Laiho vee, white with black pinstripes
A high end acoustic - haven't played enough to know what
PRS Custom
That'll do for now.
Edit: actually a JEM and a JS to round it out.

superstrat, quite possibly based on Dave Murray's strat/Adrian Smith signature Jackson San Dimas (warmoth fusion of these two - check)
ESP Laiho vee, white with black pinstripes (nope, SV with a neck a pickup....so same thing but moar - check)
hmmm. Stop gassing for my gear hamo...
I'm actually really happy with my all my gear at the moment. I suppose I just want more classic stuff now, i.e. Gibson SG/Flying V/335 and more Les Pauls, Marshall, Orange, and Fender amps.

Re: Your Dream Collection
Do I even need to respond? I'm so boring and predictable.
I like old stuff...but only if it actually plays and sounds awesome.
I would go for every model of Gibson, Gretsch, Fender from 1952 to 1964.
I would seek out other weird and cool brands also - like 50's Epiphones, some National models...some budget USA made stuff from the 50's.
Amps - same approach as above except I would add more weird brands and models.
If I had endless funds I would make this my full-time job. And if it were huge funds like that 600M in the USA I would have a full time luthier employed to help save those old guitars that need attention.
