I'm thinking of the '90s and early 2000s when the finish on Gibson acoustics was falling off while they were still new in the store. ( Said acoustics because I saw several personally). Nobody wanted relicd acoustics then so it had to be contempt..... or utter incompetence.

I'd posit that the truth lies along that whole spectrum - incontemptetance? Basically the bean counter's approach to designing and building a guitar.

I feel like teles & 335s would be smack in the centre, with occasional forays into the other side?

I really like bubble tea and gay rights but play a Gibson.

I'm not even convinced those guys in that pic could afford a Gibson, or even spell it.

Well a straight USD to NZD puts it about $5400 which I think is very reasonable, it looks great and that model should hold it's value well and be an easy onsell if need be. You'd assume that the 'Greeny' runs should all have decent tops on them. For context the RRP on my 2020 Standard (AAA top) was $5700

EDIT: Just seen that it's $6299 at NZRS, it's showing that they have one in their Queenstown store and I'm down there in a couple of weeks. Might have to check it out, will get a few pics if I do

Interesting.

I note the Greenybucker nomenclature - on the job card from Gibson product design "Make the absolutely cheapest possible pickup, using the cheapest Asian made materials, that sounds vaguely like the originals, but please reverse the polarity so we can call it something else and charge more".

Gibson spend all this time recreating their icons out of wood and nitro, yet install shitty pickups. It would be like a re-issue of the '65 Corvette Convertible with a Kia Rio 1.3lt engine.

Maybe they know that any serious Gibson officionado will immediately install Throbacks?
