Yikes! Really? Were quilt tops common among 59 LPs? I thought they were mostly just flame tops. Something about the quilt top patterns makes me feel uneasy/queasy.

Check out LP 8 5388 if you want to look at a really curly different top, it's a stunner.

I think any maple with mineral steaks etc would be covered under a solid finish in the custom shop. Although I really think they should just send it to the USA factory and get it on a Standard instead.

Bloody hell, I'd pay Gibson good money for something with modest flame but huge mineral deposits. I think they're they best-looking tops.

Early run of Murphy Lab had some issues with the lacquer chipping away since they were using a new nitro formulation at the time which was crispier. It has been fixed now but these early ones are a PITA for dealers to get rid of now.

I wouldn't mind it. It'd start looking pretty old pretty quickly.
