Favorite guitarist?
Hey, just was wondering what everyones favorite guitar player currently was. Recently i've been going back in to my vinyl collection and was playing some Cat Stevens. Despite all the silly rumors cirulating right now, its undeniable that he was an excellent guitarist and in my opinion way ahead of his day. He just recently put out a greatest hits cd "gold" and it was much better than i expected. Feel free to comment on cat stevens, and then list your own favorite guitarist. Later

Welcome to the forum!
Cat Stevens was before my time and I never really got into him, perhaps I need to dig out some of his recordings - where should I start?
My favourite guitarists are probably Dave Gilmour, Gary Moore and Eric Clapton (playing blues). Though I listen to and enjoy any good guitarist

My favourite would have to be Brian May. I'm not sure why, I think it's because of his ability to play the right thing at the right time, adding small little licks in to a song to improve it.
Actaully.. Now he's Dr Brian May CBE. (Commander of the Order of the British Empire) He got his CBE the other day. I'm not sure when he became a Doctor, I think it was last year? maybe?
I sort of go through phases of listening to other guitarists, currently im in a Eddie Van Halen phase, but Brian still remains #1.

technique meaning speed? He's certainly got a very distinctive style and is a master of the subtle use of trem arm..... I love his solo's on the entire 'Animals' album, probably his best IMHOflake wrote:also david gilmours lack of technique is really unique and gives an edge to some of his solos

my one and only guitar god used to be Slash
brian may was somewhere up there on the side, got me into playing guitar anyways. but i never learnt any brian may stuff ... too much effort.
my current guitar gods would be Dimebag Darrell , Randy Rhoads and Zakk Wylde.
goin thru abit of a metal phase evidently.

oh so many great guitarists but
Jimi Hendrix
Dave Gilmour
Tony Iommi
Saul Hudson (haha, Slash)
Mark Knopfler
Eddie Van Halen
are the dudes i like the most, only really liked slash in GnR, and yes i've listened to his other stuff, just dont like it, the def leppard guitarists are also a worthy mention i feel.

Most modern guitarist I admire is Omar Rodriguez (The Mars Volta) at the moment.
