Guitar refinish in ChCh
I asked our great ChCh mate, Alan Farrow, if he does this sort of work. He doesn't... instead, he refers people to M F Turnbull (in Waltham), to talk to Chris there. Has anyone dealt with Chris before?

There was someone here who offered such a service, based in Auckland I think. He quoted similar figures too.

If it's a Strat-type body you're not confined to Christchurch. Who did Conway's Jag? That looked a good job.

Yup, it's a Strat indeed. I just have a slight paranoia about how the colour looks on a screen vs once sprayed. It would be nice to see the colour in person.
I have seen a handful of Chris' work at Alan's, while it's awaiting reassembly, or just been reassembled. They looked just fine to me.

Re: Guitar refinish in ChCh
Who is Chris? any idea of a surname?
The reason I ask is that I've been putting some audio/Hi-Fi gear to Chris Phillps out of Rangiora who seems to do a lot of HiFi repairs around town and does some guitar and amp stuff. I'd be keen if it's the same guy and any feedback.
He's been really friendly and good with my gear, but I've just passed a turntable back as something went tits up in transit betweem his bench and my listening room (we both transported it so just as likely to be me as him).
I'm also interested in hearing about refinishing because I have a blank body I'm supposed to be working on that I'm very tempted to get done in nitro or similar rather than just GunOiling it again

No idea, I was only told "... talk to Chris". I will try and give him a call tomorrow if I remember. Feel free to explore though, John. If you get hold of him before me let us know how you got on.

Andries Vorster. Yep, excellent job - turned out much better than the Fender factory finish.Molly wrote:Who did Conway's Jag? That looked a good job.

God, never again... So time-consuming and since the nitro gasses-off for weeks after you've reassembled the guitar that nice mirror finish is only ever temporary.jeremyb wrote:I think we just need a workshop session from Molly, I seem too remember him posting up some mirror finished beauty!!

You gave me lots of good tips when I did my ones. The wrapping the fine grit sandpaper around the rubber was brilliant.Molly wrote:God, never again... I spoke to Chris this morning. Really nice chap, very helpful and easy to talk to so far. Check out the reviews section of their FB page... there's an entry there for someone's bass! https://www.facebook.com/pg/mfturnbullLtd/reviews/
