Recommended Luthiers

Post by Raewyr »

Hello there

I'm looking at recommendations for luthiers here in New Zealand - doesn't have to be region specific - as I'm willing to send my guitar to a highly recommended one. Always feels like a step of faith leaving your precious instruments in the trust of someone new. I'm looking for one to craft new fretboard and replace existing one for my acoustic.

Thanks

For that I'd go to mr glyn.

If you didn't need a new board I'd recommend Warren at audio zephyr.

Based on my experience of Audio Zephyr they're the last place I'd send a guitar. He's known for 'cultivating' the job. Took my perfectly good R9 and told the new buyer it needed frets re-seating and other completely unnecessary stuff. Snarky comments on Facebook about how some folk (meaning me) don't know how to look after a guitar. I also bought a guitar that'd just been through his workshop and it was the worst 'pro' setup I'd ever encountered. Other folk on here have had similar experiences including work being undertaken that they didn't authorise.

My votes would be for Alan Farrow (Chch) or Glyn Evans (Auckland)

Steve Barkman down here in Dunedin is a very accomplished luthier. He's happy to work on anything but his acoustic builds from scratch are top shelf.

This begs more details. What is your acoustic and what has befallen the poor thing that it needs a new fretboard? :wtf:
Beyond a critical point within a finite space, freedom diminishes as numbers increase. This is as true of humans as it is of gas molecules in a sealed flask. The human question is not how many can possibly survive within the system, but what kind of existence is possible for those who so survive.
