One song instruments

Post by Slowy »

Sparked by a conversation with Oleg:

Do you have any instruments that were bought for and only played on one song?

I have at least one; a Mandolin. I play a few things on it but there was only one the Band wanted.
So it cost me a decent pickup, replaced machine heads, and an AER amp just to play this one damn song.

And if it wasn't for Chris Rea and Mark Knopfler, I'd have no use for a Strat either.

So what are your one song wonders?
Beyond a critical point within a finite space, freedom diminishes as numbers increase. This is as true of humans as it is of gas molecules in a sealed flask. The human question is not how many can possibly survive within the system, but what kind of existence is possible for those who so survive.

Had a delay pedal for 1 U2 song. Pedal stopped working, stopped playing the U2 song. win win really.

Once I took a 2nd bass to a gig for a drop D song. I didnt appreciate how long it takes to swap guitars till I did it with the band and a small audience waiting on me.

Going back a while but I once bought a nice Yamaha acoustic because the band wanted to do More Than Words. And for years I had an Ovation John Williams that I only ever used to play Dee.

Must confess I have a slew of guitars for individual ( original ) tracks. A Supro in open D, An Sg Jnr in C, A Prs McCarty and a Strat in G and a Dano with the D string tuned up to E. The more I play them though the more pieces emerge.

I don't have the attention span to actually learn a whole song. So reaching the heady heights of one song would technically be an improvement for each of my guitars...

I wish I could justify a rack of cool guitars for those purposes. I only seem to keep guitars long term if I can use them often.

The closest thing I have is a cheap acoustic guitar that I drop tuned with thick strings to learn Blue Liquid. Every now and then I dig it out - love that guitar.

I have bought pedals for one song, but not instruments, but then to me a pedal is like an instrument...

If you listened to me playing at home, it would be a reasonable assumption to think all my guitars are one song instruments.
