Going thru a real delta blues kinda stage at the moment, loving the tone of resonators!

Pretty close to pulling the proverbial trigger on one of these:

Used to frustrate me that I couldn't mute the bridge on mine. That's a hard thing to get used to.

Tried the Gretsch in the rockshop a few years back, didn't like. If you're not spending National cash, the only option is Republic - or any of the many derivatives that are built around them.

Fender is also meh. And their are mods to Republics that open them up big time.

If you aren't sure and are happy paying shipping both ways, you're welcome to try my republic tricone for a few months and return when/if the longing goes? I love mine but its an itch that only needs scratching sometimes. It has a schatten internal pup I fitted but found to be schitten.

Or you can pickup at the next aucks super spreaders event and then ship back when/if you get bored of it ;) It is a cracking resonator that ticks all the boxes other than having National on the headstock.

I am with BG on the Gretsch, tried a couple a few years back but thought they were a bit thin sounding.

I have owned an Amistar tricone, Regal single, several Republic brass tricones and a wood single and wood tricone and Artiste brass single cone. Currently have an Aersi tricone (Shanghai factory, they make the Republics and most other name brands) and the latest Republic steel single cone which is rocking my boat currently.

I got the Aersi direct from the factory landed for about $700 but our dollar is low compared to others now and costs have basically doubled. The Republic single cost me $1800 landed whereas others were around $900 a few years back.

Oh thats spendy, but more in line with their actual value! Is anyone here bringing them in anymore?

Not that I am aware of, tried that guy in Orewa but his website is no longer, tried the guy in Dunedin, 1959? but never got a reply so went the overseas route. Republic are using DHL instead of USPS so shipping was about 3X more expensive US$400 V 125.

I think he's doing Ukes purely now. Not seen his website for awhile but most of his facebook is uke oriented
