vinylguy wrote: Mon Feb 27, 2023 4:16 pm Not sure that lightness of build is a factor with a strumming guitar as opposed to one used for fingerstyle. I dont play fingerstyle at all and am a reasonably heavy strummer ( not Richie Havens heavy but heavy in comparison to the guys I play with..) and the best guitars I have found for my style of playing are Guilds in general and my afore mentioned Martin. Also partial to Ovations, Breedloves and Larrivees. I once played a really beaten up 1973 Guild D35 that had been thrashed to within an inch of its life, but was still as heavy and as solid as anything and it sounded great.

My original point was really this : If you have 3 decent-sounding new guitars, how do you choose the one that is going to be great in a few years? I agree that playing it a lot may well be the deciding factor. :-)

I think the best you can do is to choose the one that feels best to you now. And thats difficult to do with a test play in a retail store where the choices are limited.
Yep, that's what prompted my question. But agree, the best one can do is go with your gut.

Care to entertain/inspire/tease us with details of this one?
It is a Carson Crickmore Model C (7/8ths the size of a D). All handmade. Highly figured blackwood back & sides, spruce top. Plays incredibly well and has a huge voice. On the dryer side, like a J45, but with better top end detail. Thanks for asking :-)

Sounds delightful! Do you have any 12 fret D in your arsenal?

Yip, and I checked their website straight away. Wasn't too hard to figure out the manufacturer
When faced with quality, I recognise it every time.

I used to have a Martin 12-fret D, all mahogany. But not any more. I generally need more frets :-)

I found the issue with 12 fret guitars is that when I need to use a capo theres not a lot of fretboard left...

I hate exchange rates. My dream Lowden in my chosen wood combination has now become stratospherically unaffordable. :(
Beyond a critical point within a finite space, freedom diminishes as numbers increase. This is as true of humans as it is of gas molecules in a sealed flask. The human question is not how many can possibly survive within the system, but what kind of existence is possible for those who so survive.

I have one of Graham Brazier's old acoustics here that would be a great candidate for that treatment. :D

What aspect of the design in particular made you wonder?
