Guitar shipping boxes

Post by NippleWrestler »

Where does one obtain such things? Someone is asking me to ship a guitar but there's no case or gigbag, just a raw instrument.

Any leads? Or anyone got any I could obtain in Auckland?

Thanking you

Usually just a case (haha) of asking at your local music stores. Ultimately it’s something the store is going to throw away anyway so in essence you’re probably doing them a favour

I’ll always buy something if I end up getting a box from them, usually a pack of strings as know I’m always going to need them

What about a cardboard box though?

Tell 'em it's for moving overseas or something. They're often less than keen to support the sale of second-hand goods.

I have had no issues getting them from the local music stores and second the advice to buy a set of strings or suchlike while you are there. Good Karma.

Before you do mate, are they just your regular oblong cardboard box or is there a sort of polystyrene inner thing? Ideally an inner sleeve thing would be ideal rather than just the cardboard.

Sorry, should have mentioned that from the get go.

Depends on your relationship with your local store - my local Rockshop are fully aware of my buying and selling and are always happy for me to raid their recycling bin

Shipping boxes are just boxes. You might need a gig bag for the guitar and some packing. Gibsons have paper or bubble filler due to the shaped cases, Fender cases are usually rectangular so you get a bit of foam at the top and bottom. I can give you some of that stuff.

Tell 'em it's for moving overseas or something. They're often less than keen to support the sale of second-hand goods.
That only works once though, and then it's going to be awkward next month when you need another shipping box. :D
