Oops, I'm a PRS...here's a Gibson.
Just noticed my status has changed to PRS. I meant to post my LP Jr before I devolved
Finally dug it out to try a new pedal with...
2009, 3 piece body in open-pore, cherry red. I tried out 2 others in the store and this sounded the best on the hanger, unplugged. Sounded even betterer plugged in. It's about the most Gibson my broken collarbone shoulder can take. The pup is a little thug...flattens an unsuspecting pre-amp section when you dig in but cleans up nicely when pulled back on the leash. I like it best for ska...clean for the giddy-up riddums but dig in and the bite comes on when taking over from horns.
Not one of life's beauties, really...a face good for radio, as they say...but sounds like the cat's purr...thick and raspy.
I haven't fanged it for a while...feels great! Thing is though...it's noisy as a bag of hissing snakes! Much noisier than I remember and much noisier than my Jag (orig. SCs) and a helluver much noisier than my Gretsch (filtertrons) which is near enough dead quiet. Should it be? Earth prob? Shielding? Ideas welcome.

Well, P 90s will have some hum. However, not what you’re talking about. Maybe check the Earth and consider some shielding in the )tiny) cavity?
Looks great. Well done!

Line the cavities with copper tape and earth wherever possible.

Also, I think we need another level…Mannix.

I thought my Strat was super noisy. Then I played it last night at a friend's home, and it was quiet as a mouse. I blame the lights and dodgy sleepout wiring. Worth considering!

He's not building a vege garden, the copper tape is good but no need to line the cavities with earth.Dharmajester wrote: ↑Fri Feb 03, 2023 7:23 pm Line the cavities with copper tape and earth wherever possible.
The older I get, the more disappointed in myself I become.

Yeah, I thought it might be a lead or the room lights (old coily fluorescent) so I wheeled out a single coil guitar and all was well with the same variables in play...same distance to amp...everything. Guitar fault me thinks.

Thanks chaps for the kind words and endorsements...and for the troubleshooting ideas. Much appreciated. Looks like my long weekend is sorted...cavity probing apparently...oh, the joy

Above PRS obviously.
